Customer Reviews Amazing Blender for anything Date: 2010-01-09 | Rating: 5 This blender is the best blender I have ever had. I use it every day to make smoothies and it is perfect. I love the design - it looks great on my counter. Additionally, I love the "Smoothie" button as part of the speed controls. All I have to do is hit one button and my smoothie is blended to perfection. Although I know the jar comes apart, I just put the whole thing in the dishwasher and it comes out super clean. After dealing with cheap, junky blenders for many years now, I am SOOOO glad I invested in this blender. It does NOT disappoint. It has great looks and great performance, too. THANKS!!! Great Blender Date: 2010-01-11 | Rating: 5 When I got married, we recieved none one, but three blenders. One was a nice looking chrome Halmilton Beach, one was a smoothie spout type gimicky blender and the other was a cheap thing we returned. The "smoothie" blender gave up within months. After 5 years of marriage and blending, our Hamilton Beach gave up on us as well. We decided to find something new after Christmas and got a fantastic deal on this Blender for $50 at Kohls. I will never buy another brand of blender again! This thing is fantastic. We use it daily to make smoothies. We just toss in frozen strawberries, peaches and blueberries, some apple juice and let it go. They come out with perfect consistency every time. The 40oz. pitcher is nice and wide and holds plenty! I love the design of the blender. It seems like it would be hard for the parts to break or fail. It's built to sort of keep itself from over-working. Overall, it's stylish, takes up very little space on my counter and works like a dream. It's super easy to clean as well. I have many Kitchenaid products and every time I buy one, I'm reminded why! Does the trick Date: 2010-02-02 | Rating: 4 I've had this blender for a couple of weeks now and have used it almost every day. Thus far, have only made smoothies (using frozen components), a batch of chimichurri (that I over-blended; pilot error), and an experimental ice crushing. I'm very pleased with the blender: 1. As long as there's enough liquid involved, has not been fazed thus far by frozen items. It does what it's supposed to do very well. 2. Because the buttons are flush with pedestal, easy to clean base. 3. As blenders go, noise isn't overwhelming. The above reads to me as a rating of 3, but I give it a 4 based on my satisfaction with it based on all kinds of blender reviews I read before I bought this one. Some minor cons: 1. When it's really going to town at high speed, the blender sometimes walks the counter, so you've got to keep your eye on it. 2. The blender *would* be hard to clean, I think, because it was a real bear to un-do the components. However, I clean the blender by rinsing it out after use, putting a little dab of dishwashing liquid plus hot water, then I run the blender. I then rinse with hot water. Works great! 3. The owner's manual lacks much meaningful usage guidance, such as what to blend or not to blend. Or guidance on speeds for various items. 4. It's height is such that it doesn't fit under my kitchen cabinets when fully assembled, but not in use. Could be a problem for some. |

Date: 2010-01-04 | Rating: 5 There seem subtle differences in a commercial smoothie maker you see at the juice bars and one of these. But If you want a smoothie like those there is a reason you pay $400-800 for a true commercial mixer and one of these. This Kitchenaid is Great and can handle some quality blending. But it seems Some people didn't read the title of this unit when ordering. BAR BLENDER. This think is the best consumer blender your going to find! It's heavy duty and the best think in the consumer range. it blows anything in that class away, even it's little brother units. But this is not a Vita-Mix! You want to grind up a fruit orchard or a vegetable garden then get a Vita-Mix! If you want to make drinks, frozen or regular. You want to make anything like shakes and malts? this will do it and do it for 20 years to come. this is the best consumer blender you can get. You can buy a Pro Line 600 mixer and it will be the greatest home mixer you can get. You want the same quality as the bakery uses then go get a Hobart. unrealistic expectations aside, this is a great blender and in terms of quality you can't beat it! It far exceeds anything you can get from any other maker of consumer kitchen appliances. the thing is built like a tank! made of actual metal which appears to be powder coated. weighs a lot and takes up a larger footprint than the average blender. If you can deal with the size and weight of it And understand this is not specifically designed as an object meant to grind up dense objects in huge quantity and is in fact a killer household and bar blender then you will be happy! Totally Disappointed!! Date: 2009-12-02 | Rating: 1 My husband and I have been looking for a good blender to make smoothies. We've had another cheaper brand that is so-so on smoothies! We've been reading and looking into the Blendtec and VitaMix blenders, but decided to give this one a shot after hearing it was a decent blender. Let me just say we took it out of the box the night it arrived and attempted to make a smoothie, which turned out to be an ordeal. Smelled the burning smell immediately and then it froze up. Needless to say, packed it back up and fed-exed it back to the company the next day! Have to pay a restocking fee, but well worth not having to keep this piece of junk. |

Customer Reviews I LOVED this thing UNTIL...... Date: 2008-10-04 | Rating: 5 So much easier than off-loading hot soup into a food processor or a blender. Very simple to use, makes pots of carrot soup, potato soup, zucchini soup (you get the idea) faster and with less mess than I had thought possible. HOWEVER, IT BECAME UNUSEABLE AFTER ABOUT 7 USES. THE PLASTIC DISK BEHIND THE BLADE CAME LOOSE. IT SLIDES DOWN THE STEM AND GETS IN THE WAY OF THE BLADE, BECOMING A LITTLE MORE TATTERED WITH EACH USE. I just hope that I have made at least $50.00 worth of wonderful soup and that my family hasn't gotten a wierd disease from ingesting small chunks of grey plastic. I am editing my previous review but Amazon won't let me change the number of stars from 5 to 2. Wow, incredible product Date: 2005-08-07 | Rating: 5 I used my new Kitchenaid immersion blender for the first time today. Compared to my other major name brand blender this one is superior in every aspect. Power, size, ease of use and durability. As a former chef and still loving the kitchen, I am in total awe of how incredible this product performed. The attachments that were included for the price is fantastic. Delivered prior to my expected date as well. Kudos. Finally, a hand blender that doesn't suck. Date: 2008-09-22 | Rating: 5 I am a Kitchenaid fan from now on. This blender is killer. Much better than the other two I tried. Even chops ice well. And best of all, it doesn't break or spew rotten drink out later from the inside. I think I've had it 3 or 4 years now. Excellent purchase. Now, would the Ultimate Chopper fill a niche for me...? Highly reliable and powerful Date: 2008-10-12 | Rating: 5 This hand blender is great...my previous one just sat in the cabinet all the time because it wasn't at all efficient. This one is worth the price for the power it provides; it purees soup like a dream. The sealable blending container it comes with is very handy as well. Kitchenaid Hand Blender - Onyx Black Date: 2009-09-13 | Rating: 5 This has the usual KitchenAid high quality we've come to expect. Sure, the specs were given, but without getting out a ruler or tape measure I wasn't able to correctly picture the size of this mixer in my mind. It is quite large, especially when compared to the Braun I was replacing, making the KitcheAide a bit large and "unwieldy" to use. It surely does the job, and the variable speeds are great. It's a fine product! |

It performs all the traditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning ice cream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter than old-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape the sides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberry daiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks up to the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing 75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latté. --Dana Van Nest Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number of functions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blender under $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulse function, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. The blender's 40-ounce glass jar has a squat shape, making it more manageable than taller blenders, and comes completely apart. Customer Reviews Vast Improvements Over the Previous Generation Model Date: 2003-09-04 | Rating: 5 Let me start by saying that we have had a KitchenAid blender since 1998; it was good but not great. With this updated version of the KSB5, KitchenAid has made improvements galore!1. the lid: completely different and much improved: there are no longer 2 add-in ingredients openings & caps with tiny little impossible-to-clean crevices and no more rubber sealer to clean (and tear or rot over time)2. the buttons: easier to push - there is a definite click when you push them instead of having to mash and mash like on the old buttons; but it still features KitchenAid's easy clean touch pad3. the pitcher: much nicer, let's just say different, with a different heft and weight to it, but especially with the added convenience of a pouring spout (missing from the previous incarnation)4. color: we happen to have purchased the Empire Red on a whim (a departure from my all-white countertop appliance theme) and love it: the shade is not too orange and very vibrant**but most importantly, the best for last**5. the motor & blades: SUCH an improvement! the kind of motor you expect from KitchenAid. First, it is quieter than my last KSB5, we noticed that immediately. But even more importantly, it really does liquefy on the liquefy speed and boy does it accomplish that feat quickly: we love smoothies for breakfast made from frozen friuts. With the previous model, we would have to turn it on, wobble it around, go find something else to occupy a few minutes time while blending, come back, stir it up, blend some more & the thing STILL would leave large chunks of frozen fruit in the bottom of the blender. Not anymore! Not only do our smoothies come out smooth, but it takes only about 20 seconds! That's what I call a blender! This improvement not only comes from the motor but also from the redesigned blades. Before, two prongs pointed up and two pointed down, but now all four blades are set at different angles to ensure that every last bit is blended smoothly. NO MORE CHUNKS...So to sum up, KitchenAid has finally designed a blender worthy of its name (we also have KitchenAid's hand mixer, stand mixer, and food processor, so we consider ourselves authorities on the subject)... The Best Blender I've ever owned Date: 2001-02-14 | Rating: 5 I received my blender and that very night made Banana Blueberry smoothies. I've tried to make smoothies with my Hamilton Beach Blender for over 2 years and each time I have lumps of ice or the protein powder doesn't fully blend and leaves a chalky taste. Well this blender is tops!!!! It crushed the ice very well and blended all of my ingrediants with ease. The smoothie lived up to it's name, it was smooth and free of any chunks of ice and or fruit. I did a lot of research on blenders this past 7 months and all the reviews on Kitchenaid seemed to boast of a high quality machine with few problems. It's a little extra money, but it's well worth it. Best I've had! Date: 2003-05-19 | Rating: 5 This is THE blender I've been looking for! My osterizer just wasn't cutting it, especially when I wanted to make hummus; everything would just get stuck down there, or, a margarita, slush? uh huh, just a bunch of ice pebbles. So I checked out what kind of blenders there were available and I chose the KSB5 KitchenAid and I am at the very least, satisfied...wide mouth, see through (unlike the chrome) flush buttons are a great plus, 'cause it's very easy to clean and it's QUIET! I made a margarita the very day I bought it and enjoyed a lovely, slushy perfect margarita ( have you ever had a hibiscus margarita? Great. Get recipe on the web.) The next day I made red bell pepper hummus. I added a 1/4 cup of water and there was it was! It's so quiet Date: 2004-04-29 | Rating: 5 I don't have to worry about waking the neighbors any more! It grinds through anything. I make milkshakes with frozen fruit, chomp ice cubes, and it makes the silkiest egg nog. Its wonderful. And it's red. Perfection. Powerful and solid. Date: 2001-08-23 | Rating: 5 I am a cheapskate. No, really. At restaurants, I make free fresh squeezed lemonade by squeezing lemon wedges into my water and then adding several packages of sugar. So I know from cheap.Spending money on a high-end blender like this went against every fiber in my body. Couldn't we just buy a cheapo blender from the store? But I'm happy I made the purchase two years ago.Kitchenaids are known as the toughest performers on the block, and I can tell you that their blenders meet this description. We've put it through its paces -- whether it be making smoothies with lots of ice -- or grinding up vegetables for a soup. The blender has a convenient "Pulse" option, as well as five convenient power levels. My only complaint is that it can be somewhat of a pain to clean, even though you can put it in the dishwasher. Bottom line: It's worth the money. |
